7 Valentine’s Day Children’s Crafts and Activities

Love Monsters
Craft a little love monster to be your valentine! This kids’ activity is perfect to do at home or at a children’s Valentine’s Day party. For this craft you’ll need:
- Yarn
- Chenille stems
- Googly eyes
- Glue gun with hot glue
- Mini paper cups
- Piece of cardboard (approx. 2” x 4”)
- Scissors
- Craft paper
Wrap the yarn around the cardboard piece long-ways about 150-200 times. On one side of the cardboard tie a knot around the center of the yarn. Flip the cardboard over and cut through the center of the yarn. This will be the main body of your love monster. Take an upside down mini paper cup and hot glue the pom pom to the top (Safety Tip: we recommend a parent use the hot glue gun). Make another, smaller pom pom by wrapping the yarn short-ways around the cardboard about 20-30 times. Hot glue this pom pom on top of the other one. Now your love monster has a “toupee” of hair! To decorate your monster, glue on googly eyes and chenille stems under the yarn, to poke out like antennas. Cut out paper hearts and glue those to the stems. You can create a whole family of monsters that range from quirky to adorable!
Valentine’s Day Clothespin Wreath
Your child will love making a Valentine’s Day wreath to hang on your front door! This craft activity is the perfect way to celebrate and welcome people home with love. To make this wreath you’ll need:
- A wire wreath base (available at craft stores or you can make your own circle using floral wire)
- Clothespins
- Paint
- Ribbon
- Paper
- Scissors
- Glue
Attach the clothespins to the wreath base all the way around. Paint the front of the clothespins however you like! You can paint all of them pink or alternate colors like red, pink, and white. Add a ribbon bow to the bottom right of the wreath. Add extra decoration by cutting out paper hearts and gluing them to the wreath. Once dry, hang on your front door and create a loving entrance to your home!
Lovebugs Bookmark
Ignite the spark of creativity in little readers! This colorful activity offers hands-on fun to make a bookmark to use during reading time. You’ll need:
- Craft paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Markers
- Googly eyes
Cut a 6-inch strip of paper for the body of your bookmark. Cut out two ovals from black craft paper. Glue one oval at the top of the bookmark and another a couple inches below, both at angles. These are the bodies of your lovebugs. Cut out four pink paper hearts. Glue two hearts onto the first oval, to form the wings of your lovebug and do the same to the second oval. Add googly eyes to each bug and glue on paper antennas. Your child can also write their name onto the bookmark, so they never lose it! Your child will love using this bookmark at school and at home during storytime.
Valentine’s Day Craft Tree
This Valentine’s Day heart tree is the perfect activity for kids of all ages! To make this sweet craft you’ll need:
- Red or pink chenille stems
- String
- Scissors
- Craft paper
- Mini baking cups
- Confetti or artificial snow
Bend the bottom of a chenille stem and glue it to the bottom of a mini baking cup. Fill the cup with confetti or artificial snow (perfect if you live in a cold weather climate) to cover the base. Twist more chenille stems onto the first to form branches. Cut out tiny paper hearts and glue an inch of string to each one. Tie the hearts to the branches. Now you have a beautiful Valentine’s Day tree, decorated with hanging hearts!
Heart Air Balloon Craft
For this Valentine’s Day activity, you’ll make a hot air balloon that you can hang for decoration! You’ll need:
- Red balloon
- White string
- Pink construction paper
- Craft glue
- Scissors
- Tape
Blow up the red balloon and tie off the end. Cut out hearts from the pink construction paper and tape them to the balloon. Make sure the tied end of the balloon is facing upward when you tape the hearts. Tie four pieces of white string at the balloon’s tied end. Drape the string down the balloon, evenly spaced apart. Leave a small gap and then tie the string ends together. Construct the balloon basket out of pink construction paper. Cut a long strip and then fold into a square. Glue the two end pieces together to form the square basket. Glue or tape the string to the paper square, so the basket is hanging from the balloon. Finally, tie string to the balloon’s tied end at the top, so you can hang your creation from anywhere in the house!
I Love My Family Tree Craft
Celebrate the love you have for your family this Valentine’s Day with a family tree craft! Kids will paint a family tree and write their family’s names on each branch. This craft is especially fun because it uses celery! For this activity you’ll need:
- Celery stick
- Green and brown paint
- Black, pink, and red markers
- White paper
Paint a tree trunk with branches in brown paint on the white paper. Dip the end of a celery stick into the green paint and stamp leaves onto the branches. Once the paint is dry, write letters of family members onto the different branches. You can also draw red and pink hearts onto the branches, like apples hanging in a tree. Hang up your homemade family tree and honor all your loved ones.
Valentine’s Day Crown
Craft a crown to wear all day long! This fun children’s activity is super affordable to make and ready in minutes! For this craft you’ll need:
- Paper
- Foam hearts
- Markers
- Chenille stems
- Stapler
- Glue
- Scissors
Cut a long strip of paper to fit your child’s head. Staple the ends together to form the crown. Staple or glue one chenille stem to either side of the crown. Curl the stems and then glue a foam heart to the tops. Glue the foam hearts all around the crown. You can also use markers to draw other fun symbols or add words. Kids can wear their homemade heart crown during all their Valentines celebrations and class parties!
